What We Do

RACS has extensive proven experience of sampling building materials and NDT. We have over 15 years’ experience in this field. Our work is carried out to BSEN12504. Some of the areas of testing we cover are listed below, this list is not exhaustive.

Concrete Testing & Analysis

- Cover meter Surveys utilising Elcometer 331-B, Proceq Profoscope or Micrometer MC8022

- Ferroscan using the Hilti PS300

- Half Cell Potential Mapping utilising the Proceq Proformer 5, Elcometer 331-B & Canin+ Corrosion Analysing Instrument.

- Dust Sampling for Laboratory Chloride analysis (Incremental and straight samples)

- Coring Dry and Wet including using hydraulic Rigs.

- Reinforcement Clarification-type-size-condition-loss of section.

- Detailed Structural Surveys.

- Damp measuring.

- Crack Monitoring.

- Wall tie, Brick and Mortar sampling.

- Steelwork Condition & Corrosion Investigations.

- Carbonation Penetration depth measuring.

Structural Defect / Safety & Quantitative Surveys

RACS have over 15 years’ experience in this field. We can provide detailed measured surveys of defects and full safety surveys of both high rise and low rise structures.
We have carried out such surveys in varying environments including City Centre High Rise residential and commercial property, sea defence arches on the coast of Folkestone and underground installations.

Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete Surveys

In the post-war period the country built numerous new buildings with a variety of different methods, many of these are now feeling their age. One innovative construction material and process was RAAC: Reinforced Autoclaved  Aerated Concrete, which is an aerated lightweight cementitious material with no coarse aggregate; the material properties and structural behaviour therefore differs significantly from ‘traditional’ reinforced concrete. Many of the buildings which used RAAC panels were constructed in the mid 1960s to mid 1980s, with the vast majority of them used to form the roof of the structure, usually flat, and hence are difficult to access, survey, maintain and replace. In September 2022, the Office of Government Property sent a Safety Briefing Notice to all Property Leaders, regarding the dangers of RAAC, stating that ‘RAAC is now life-expired and liable to collapse’ If you would like more informantion on RAAC panels and how you could be effected, please get in touch via our contact page and we will be happy to discuss your specific requirements.

Remedial Repairs

We know getting even the simplest repairs done at height in more traditional ways like scaffolding can be intrusive to the structure and people around it, time consuming and costly. RACS can bring down the time, cost and reduce the impact on the building and the people around it by using Industrial Rope Access. The list below is by no means exhaustive but gives an appreciation on the services we can carry out using Rope Access methods.

  • Mastic Repairs
  • Doff cleaning (High Temprature Lower Pressure Cleaning)
  • Jet Washing
  • Painting
  • Fixing replacement, re-torque
  • Re Pointing of brickwork
  • Concrete repairs
  • Louvre panel replacement
  • De-Vegetation
  • Joinery
